Welcome to the GMDSS forum, brought to you by Densham and Associates Pty Ltd.
This forum has been established to stimulate discussion on all things GMDSS, and is a logical progression from the GMDSS email list, which has been running for almost 10 years.
I do hope this forum runs as long and as successfully!
The forum is for all GMDSS users.
The same rules apply here as the GMDSS mailing list, and any other forum - please be respectful of other's opinions (as I know you will).
Unlike other internet forums, I prefer that you use your real name here - however, if you would prefer a non de plume for privacy reasons, then please go ahead.
Thanks Glenn Dunstan Owner.

Hi Glen, Firstly can I say well done and thank you for getting this forum up and running I was finding the email threads a bit cumbersome to follow. As way of introduction, I am a Coastguard Watch keeper in a UK MRCC and an RYA SRC Assessor (although business has dropped off over the past few months) and I look forward to discussing GMDSS issues with other users from different back grounds. You have raised some very interesting points on the modernisation of GMDSS, I very much hope to be able to contribute to the forum from the UK SAR co-ordination point. Obviously these are my personal views and not the views of the Coastguard. Regards Gary

Thank you for starting this forum.
Being an ex-Sparky and now with the Malaysian Maritime Academy teaching GMDSS to deck officers, I hope it will benefit us.
Thank you.

Hello Everyone To introduce myself; I am a serving seafarer in the British Merchant Navy, starting in 1976 as a Radio Officer for BP Tanker Co Ltd. Obviously this was before GMDSS and therefore I communicated primarily by Morse with a few sideband link calls thrown in via Portishead Radio (fondly remembered). Moving into the offshore sector I have metamorphosed as things have progressed and I am now employed by an American company as a Snr Electronic Technical Officer on a new build vessel. Many questions continue to be asked about legislative issues involving GMDSS and I am pleased to find a forum that may be able to help with the usual regulatory minefield which when required to wade through has a marked gravitational effect on ones eyelids!

Welcome aboard Nigel. I did 11 years in the Aussie MN (80-91), with a lot of tanker time. Interested to see that you are still at sea. When GMDSS came around, were offered retraining as mates, or a golden handshake. Not a tricky decision... Regards Glenn
