Hello and welcome aboard.

Do you mean the SAR regions?

Thank you Glenn.

I was referring to the areas mentioned in the International Convention on Maritime SAR 1979.
Seems as if an area is made up of many regions. (the word "region" seems to be used in a local sense)

www.imo.org/conventions/mainframe.asp?topic_id=253

IMO search and rescue areas

Following the adoption of the 1979 SAR Convention, IMO's Maritime Safety Committee divided the world's oceans into 13 search and rescue areas, in each of which the countries concerned have delimited search and rescue regions for which they are responsible.

Provisional search and rescue plans for all of these areas were completed when plans for the Indian Ocean were finalized at a conference held in Fremantle, Western Australia in September 1998.

I can not find a list of these 13 areas, I suppose it is buried deep in one of the publications somewhere, I am just interested to know what these areas are.

Thanks
Frank

Hello Frank

Sorry for the delay in reply - I'm at a conference.

Have a look here:

Thanks Glenn; I'm not in any rush.

I have seen that map but I can't figure out what the "13 areas" are
I guess they are something like the NAVAREA's (there's 16 of them), but it is only academic interest so not really important just something I'd like to find out.

Seems strange that they are mentioned in the convention and appear hidden from view unless you buy the whole convention document. Don't understand these commercial pressures when it concerns SOLAS.

In any case, thank you very much for your help.
best wishes
Frank
